All good things must…..

IMG_2738It has now been almost a year since the last post on Tiddelipom. It is way too long to be able to summarize everything that has happened in single post, so I guess you will just get a few headlines from the past year. Now, where to start…

Ohh yeah – we are moving home to Denmark in the beginning of 2016. After two years in China, it is now time to go back to Copenhagen and continue our new life there. We fell very sad to leave this wonderful country that has given us so much, but now is the perfect timing, – both jobwise and personally – , to say goodbye.

Let us look back at 2015, which in many ways has been a further look into the culture and diversity of China and its people.

One of the things from the Chinese heritage we have enjoyed the most is the Great Wall of China. The wall itself is a fantastic structure of unbelievable dimensions. The wall changes appearance from one season to another and from location to location. A visit to the wall is never the same and we have been hiking on the wall more than ten times at 6 different locations. I do not dare guessing how many km we have hiked and how many stairs we have climbed. The wall has also been a mandatory stop on the itinerary of all our visitors.

Speaking of visitors, 2015 has been a year with a lot of stopovers from our friends and family. Carsten’s parents, Danielle’s parents, Nathalie, Ponthus, Channe, Dennis, Jonas, Trine, Ylva, Calle, Jalle, Sara and Alexander. Each visit has been different and has enriched our lives in so many ways. We could spend hours describing the different trips we were on, but instead let us just say that we had a blast with every visit.

Our daily life has been filled with the usual stuff. Work, cooking, long walks and meeting friends. In the weekends it has often been spiced up with a weekend trip to somewhere in China, or other places in the region, like Korea or the Philippines. In China, the trip itineraries have among others included Beidaihe, Xian, Guilin, Hangzhou, Jixian, Beijing, Shanghai etc. All of them are wonderful places where we would like to come back to one day. China is truly a magnificent place.

The longer trips we embarked on around the region were adventures in their own right. Our trip to the Philippines (during Chinese new year) were definitely one of the highlights of the year. We were hiking in the rice terraces of the northern mountains, exploring underground caves, visited the hanging coffins  of Sagada and meeting up with Jakob and Juna in the Palawan archipelago to go on a snorkeling trip together – just to mention a few thing. The Philippines is definitely a place we want to go back to again.

Our two years in China has really been an unforgettable experience, which we will put in our mental backpack and carry with us for the rest of our lives. We would like to thank all our Chinese friends, colleagues and all of those who have supported us throughout the period. But all good things must come to an end and when one door closes another often opens up. We are looking forward to see what is behind the next one…

With love from China,

D&C
